GAPASH developed the effluent dispersion modeling study for the COPEINCA submarine outfall project in Chancay Bay, with the objective of evaluating the dilution conditions of the discharge and determining the most efficient location alternative for the discharge system.

The study integrated information obtained through bathymetric surveys, ADCP measurements of marine currents, CTD density profiles, and water quality monitoring, allowing for the characterization of the hydrodynamic and environmental conditions of the receiving environment. The operational characteristics of the effluent and the proposed diffuser system were also incorporated to analyze different discharge scenarios.

Using the CORMIX tool, the behavior of the discharge plume was evaluated for different alternative locations of the submarine outfall, estimating the dilution conditions, the spatial distribution of water quality parameters and the extent of the mixing zone according to the criteria established by the National Water Authority (ANA).

The results obtained provided technical criteria for selecting the most favorable location alternative for the outfall, contributing to the design of an environmentally sustainable solution and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
